3rd gear was out...now 4th.?

3rd gear has always been out since ive owned my 87 325is. then today 4th just went. put it in 4th and its like its in Neutral.

Im thinking shifter bushings/linkage? Mainly because the bushings are so bad now, even in gear its like you can move it around the same as in N.

I've got a similar problem! The last couple days it has been extremely hard to get into 2nd (grinding, clunking, all sorts of good noises!). This morning on the drive into work, it was doing the same thing. I guess I pulled a little hard, anyway I heard something snap and now I have no 2nd gear at all. The shifter is also SUPER loose... basically can't tell what gear I am in! I am hoping it is something like bushings or something like that. What do you guys think? I never realized how much you use 2nd driving around the city! hahaha!

Yes! Anybody? I think were both praying its the shifter linkage/ bushings! Dont wanna find or rebuild a trans. Yeah its def hard with no 3rd or 4th hahah. Gotta get it super high in 2nd and go to 5th.

Its scary the way it went out. Just like i put it in neutral when driving.

2nd is gone in the wifes E30, which I am driving until my car is done.

where you from Haste?? maybe if its canada we can make a deal if you have to swap out trannys, I wouldnt be going beyond 3rd. If I set my gear right, I may never leave 1st or 2 nd gear
