    Diff Questions?!?!?

I just got a diff, seems to be a 4.10 medium case..(no visible [S] atop or below the diff either.) (I spun the shafts and counted the rotations and it does actually seem to go 4:1)

but tag which says 410 doesn't have an S, or D, (Im unsure on which equals to a LSD).... Also I have checked by spinning the driveshaft flange and both output shafts spin in the same direction...

so it passed that test, but if i spin the driveshaft flange and hold one of the output shafts, the one i hold stays still, but the opposite side will spin. (the output shaft being held wants to spin along with the opposite, but if you hold it with enough force you can stop it while the other side spins.

    What does this mean?
    Is it not an LSD?
Im thinking its an LSD, but its probably worn... if thats the case what are my options?

It sounds to me like, and the physical evidence supports, that you have a 4.10 open diff. If the diff was an LSD the tag would have an S on it and usually there will be an S on the top of the casing. With neither present it should be an open diff. The conclusive test would be to lock one output flange and turn the other. If the flange moves easily and turns the input flange you have an open diff.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It's an open. If you spin one axle, the other will spin the opposite. If they spin the same direction, it's an LSD. Enjoy.

        Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

          Hey Yoshi, right?

You seem to know a lot, i remember watching some vids on youtube, and i was like oh snap this guys on r3v and I think on e30drift , but anyway...

          SO its an LSD

like i said before they both spin in the same direction.
But If I hold onto one side, the other side will spin.

Does this mean it has worn clutches or something?

Does the drive shaft stub spin too? IE you hold one axle stub and spin the other and nothing happens?

Also, I've seen some open diffs spin the other axle in the same direction. But in that case, the drive shaft input will spin. It's rare though.

But yes, your clutches could be worn out. And yes, I am yoshi. "That guy"

Dude, if you can hold one side and spin the other it's OPEN period.

My buddy decided to throw it on his car

1st gear tires cherp no burn out, throw in 2nd

                  tires spin....... Both tires spin...

neither of us had much time or else i would have just opened the case....
