    2nd gear issues.

ok simply put: my trans wont let me shift down into 2nd unless i put some force into it. and when i do, you can feel it catch teeth hard, and also sometimes it sounds like metal rubbing but then goes away. it for the most part will always go in when shifting up. but when you try to go from 3rd to 2nd, it wants to be a pain.

this all happened when i was getting off the off ramp on the freeway going home. the trans had been perfectly fine all weekend, then all of a sudden this happens.

so the first thing i went to check was the fluid... and to my surprise there was none... so i put fluid in and it still does the same thing. also the drain plug just had normal metal shavings from probably 200k miles.

what could cause this? do you think it could have gotten so hot from just cruising on the freeway in 5th it could have fused something?

If the transmission has run without oil for any period of time, it has suffered internal damage. In this case it sounds like the most noticeable damage has been to the 2nd gear syncros.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
