play in shifter??

Hey fellars,


So I recently bought a 91 318I from a couple. They stated the car has a aftermarket short shifter, but when shifting, there is a ton of play in the shifter.

When its in gear, I can move the shifter around quite a bit. Almost bringing it back to neutral (remember, when in gear!!)

I'm curious if this is a sign of my car needing a shifter rebuild?

read the diy short shifter thread for a full breakdown of the parts. There are guides on here, pelican parts, etc. Blunttech offers a kit, as do others.

my short list:
pivot bushing
foam insert for the knuckle joint
rear shifter carrier bushing(carrier to car)
plastic washers(yellow, 2 or 4 depending on shifter application)
front shifter carrier bushings- highly recommend akg's delin ones.
