    Every gear is weird, help?

    I did a tranny swap on my '90 325is, the tranny is from a '86 e325e. when we dropped the tranny in i think we bent the linkage but im not sure. since we did the swap it has been like this;

    reverse-you need to shake it as you are trying to put it in reverse.

    first-pops in with some muscle

    second-pops in loud

    third- used to pop in loud, now it grinds going from 2 to 3 but not 4 to 3. and a couple of times it wouldnt go in at all. like there was a wall blocking it so i had to double clutch and then it went in fine.

    fourth-pops in loud

    fifth-is smooth as butter

    keep in mind that there is VERY LITTLE play in the shifter so im not sure of the bushings. thanks

    You "think" you bent the linkage? Did you look at it? Is it bent? Sounds like it may be, or your trans is garbage.

      Check your linkages for said bend(s) and make sure everything is oriented correctly. Check your bushings too.

      I had the wrong shift carrier and had the "hitting a wall" feeling trying to get into second and fifth.

      I've also dealt with sloppy bushings and had the same effect.
