318is and 325is are the trans the same?

A buddy of mine has a short shift kit for an 84 318 and i was curious if it would fit in my 89 325is?

The transmission are different, but I'm fairly sure the shifters are the same. The 318 has a sheet metal style shifter console though where as the 325 has the late model aluminum one, so that might cause problems. Try cross referencing part numbers from realoem.com.
