    Question About Getrag 260

I picked up a Getrag 260 from a 91 325iS today for $150 with most all the swap parts. The only thing that I thought was weird is that alot of the 5 speeds I see in 87-90 325s have a shift pattern where Reverse is to the far left and up but on this transmission reverse is to the far right and down like most domestic 5 speeds.

Are there some differences in any of the 91 325iS's trannys that were made for that particular year?

There was never a '91 325is and it has the wrong shift knob on it.

It never had a shift knob on it.. we went through each gear and reverse is to the far right and down guaranteed.

And Google disagrees with the 91 325iS comment..

"Google" is wrong. There is no "325is" for the 91 model year, all of the "325i" models had the full sport package.

As for the shifter, you're puffing on something man. Even the euro "Dogleg" box had reverse up and to the left.

Well google is wrong. There was a '91 325i sport, but no "325is."

*edit - damn it. Charlie beat me to it.

I don't think there is such thing as a BMW gearbox that doesn't have reverse to the top left...maybe some really old boxes, but certainly none for E30s.

some jags in the uk used a getrag 290 and reverse was below the 5. What did you say that box came from? Can this guy check some seriel numbers on it and verify which getrag model it is for us? Anyone know where and what the numbers should be?

I guess I have randomtask37 come over and verify.

All I know is that it says Getrag on the side, the serial number starts with 260 , and it came from a E30 325iS.

I weary of some peoples opinions on this board as one of you was quick to tell me my 87 325i never existed which, of course, was untrue.
