    Blasphemy! 5spd to Auto swap?

I know..I know.. Everyone reading this is thinking "Why the fuck?"

I'm going to start a commute a few times a week: 120-140 miles a day, half of that in bumper-bumper-traffic.

IF I wanted to swap an auto into my car for a while..whats required?
Can I leave my pedals in place, and just swap out the tranny and the shifter?
Are there any ECU changes, wiring, etc?

Do I have other options besides the E30 auto tranny? Perhaps a newer one that might be smoother or more reliable?

    Thoughts?

thoughts are to sell the one you have for a auto. That or find a Auto Eta, Great mileage and is already auto. And really cheap

The idea would be to put my car back to 5 spd once I dont have to commute anymore. This would just be a temp thing.

For the headaches and parts to do it wouldn't it be easier to find a beater car for a few hundred and just use that?

After buying all the parts needed to do the swap it might be cheaper to buy a beater car for a few hundred bucks and call it a day especially since it's only temporary.

You can leave the pedals I ran it like that when I went from auto to manual.

There will be some wiring if you want your cruise to work and reverse lights.

You'll need to swap out the flywheel and possibly the starter and need the auto driveshaft as well

by the time you swap out, Driveshaft, radiator, lines, shifter, kickdown button, kickdown cable and all other misc parts you may as well leave it that way.

Yeah I didn't realize how much was involved with it. F all that noise, I deal with the legwork of the 5spd in traffic.

More work than it's worth. If this is short term, just buy an auto beater that'll get good gas mileage and sell it when you're done. Like a Honda.
