Small case to medium case diff swap.... axles needed or not?

Hi guys, I have been reading all afternoon on swapping out a small case for medium case diff, i have seen mixed reviews on if the output shafts need to be replaced or not..
There are a few posts saying all diffs are interchangable, some posts say i need the medium case e30 output shafts... are the driveshafts the same?
I also looked on the ETK and medium case vs. small case output axles have 2 different part numbers...

Put the new diff in. All done! I've swapped from Small to Medium case about 6 times, the only difference I've ever found is the speed sensor plug from an older diff was different than mine.

Going from small in my 318i to medium from a late 325is required the output flanges to be swapped. My hex bolts rounded off when I tried to change just the outputs so I just swapped axles. Your experiences may vary.
