    lsd's

i am thinking about getting a new lsd for my car. Mine is whining like crazy. I have an '87 325ic. So what lsd would be best? I am not going to track my car.

If your looking for a better gear for driving economically you should get a 2.93 off the "E" models. If not, get a 3.XX diff for more of a driving appeal.

Yeah they seem to be good for an M20 car. It's mostly based on what diff's you can find in your area also.

yeah i found one local. I am going to try and change fluid in mine first to see if it stops the whining.

What fluid is recommended for BMW LSDs? Redline? I went to the dealership and they only have the new stuff for the E46 M3s that come out to about $50 a pint!

Any 75w90 or 80w90 fluid is fine. You don't need anything fancy.

If you want the "correct" ratio for the car you'll want a 3.73.

Are you manual or auto-tragic? Stock manual gear is 3.73, stock auto gear is 4.10. For all around driving, these are pretty good ratios. M20 2.5 is not a torque monster so it needs some gear in the back to give it some leverage.

I just bought a 3.73. As far as fluid, do I need to add the "additive" specifically for LSDs? Or just go with the normal diff fluid (redline) and don't worry about it?

No additive is needed but Redline does make one for LSD.
