    starter not hitting flywheel

I just tossed in a new getrag 260 into my 88is and when I went to start the car I found the starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel. My flywheel and starter didn't change, just the trans. The clutch stayed on the block. What would cause a shift in the starter position? I can't really see where it is possible to align something wrong

I never touched the wires. just unbolted the thing and bolted it back on to the new trans.

        Holy crap.

Take it apart, you have to have something wrong.

I guess. The whole trans looks flush with the block though. I pulled the starter off and everything looks good. Whatever, I'll sleep on it and see what I do tomorrow.

Starter may have taken a shit, it can happen without explanation. Have somebody hammer the starter while you crank.

I ended up pulling the whole trans back out, looked around, saw nothing strange, put it back in, hooked up the starter and it cranks. I have no clue how I went wrong the first time. Seems pretty fool proof but I guess I am some sort of mega fool.

It sounds like the transmission might not be fully seated to the block.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
