    Thump Everytime I Shift?

Let see if someone can help me pinpoint my drive train problem. Everytime I shift gear i hear a thump from the back. I also hear a hum/whine when i'm pressing on the gas in fifth gear when i'm driving on local. I've got a chance to get under the car but its really hard to see if anything is wrong. Both of my axle have ripped boot. Could this be the culprit? I have not changed the diff fluid because I plan on putting a LSD in there eventually. Any suggestion and guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If the boots on the half shafts have tears, at the least those boots need to be replaced. If they have been torn for a while and the CV joints have lost their grease and or become contaminated with dirt the half shafts will have to be replaced. But that probably isn't where the thump is comming from. Noise from the rear of the car while shifting is more likely to be from (in order) bad trailing arm bushings, bad subframe mounts, a bad differential bushing or loose bolts, a worn out drive shaft. or a worn out differential.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
