    torque converter

I swapped a supposedly good auto tranny into my convertible as the old one was not shifting properly and ran across a potential issue and thought someone might be able to chime in. I got the donor tranny from an 88 seta and when I installed it into the vert I used the same torque converter that was with that transmission. I just noticed that the seta has a lower stall speed than a regular i and that the converters are a different spec number too.

Should I have put the old i converter in instead of the seta one? If so what would the lower stall speed converter do to my tranny as far as drivability? I have noticed that the tranny shifts very hard at high rpms and will chirp the tires from 1st to 2nd at 40 mph! I didn't know if this was because of the converter or from a valve body problem. Thanks!

Answer to my own question! I talked with a tranny shop guy and he said that the torque converter from the SETA which has a slightly less stall speed than one from an i would not effect the function of the tranny in any way other than if you had your foot on the brake and floored the go pedal the motor would stall out a couple hundred rpms sooner. That being said I never power brake my car so that would be a non issue!

As far as my hard shifting is concerned, he said that is sounds like a valve is sticking slightly so we are going to add what he called a wetter to the fluid to see if that would make the valves slip easier and then everything would function as it should. I will let you know how it works out!
