Ok, so what differentials can be used for an e30 by going through the process changing the back plate and the shafts?

I'm looking at Bimmerfanatik's 3.15LSD off an e36 however I'm not sure it fits. I'm sure it would be nice for others to know what other cars they can grab diffs off from.

    Thanks,
    Erick

Can't the e28 diffs be used? and the e36ti can be used on small case cars, right?

You butt jockeys had better tell him it fits. I need money.

      :)

Totally kidding. Like you all didn't know that, and I needed to put the words down as a disclaimer.

I don't want to sell him this fine ass rear end if it doesn't fit. What about swapping the internals?

Why would you want a 3.15 diff with an M20 tranny?

Short answer about E30 6 cyl diffs is this:

all E30 6 cyl diffs (PLUS E30 M3) will fit.
E28 ('82-88 5 series) diffs will fit with a change of rear cover + side flanges.

            Also
E36 318ti diffs will fit (small case diff- for 4 cyl cars).

That's it for direct bolt-in replacements.

If you are capable of swapping internals (most people are NOT- you really have to know what you are doing or the diff will howl like a mofo)- then you can use all sorts of gearsets. E34 (except M5/540i) and E32 6 cyl cars, as well as some of the older 7 series (E23) have gearsets that will fit the E30 6 cyl case.

            That is all....

            Bret.

Z3 diffs will work, they have assorted big and small case stuff.

E24 6 series diffs will work as well.

Same reason why any other e30 owner would want a lower ratio diff.

Rigmaster and Adam, thanks or the response. So a regular e36 non-Z/ti diff wouldnt work? Shame if so.

No sir. I don't even think you can swap housings on that.
