Today was an interesting day... It started off good. Took the bimmer to the car wash.

And then... On the way home, some awful grinding noises/vibrations started. The vibrations were so harsh that it knocked the shift lever out of the gearbox. Luckily didn't start till I was almost home so we were able to pretty much coast back into my parking lot. Had no idea what it was coming from - checked the differential fluid but it was at a good level. Then lifted up the front of the car, PO didn't even have the gearbox support mounted - the bolts were there but no nuts. And the bolts had a good amount of grease caked on them so the nuts didn't just pop off. So, basically my tranny was hanging in the car purely because it was connected to the engine. Crazy.

Anyway - got underneath the front of the car to connect the shift lever and look at my guibo. It is in pretty bad shape.

Ordering a new guibo tonight (Do you know if I get the Guibo with the 10 or 12mm bolts? Some sites say it changed for 'e' in May '86. Some just have the one 12mm one. Realoem has the 10mm. So I don't really know which one to order), do you guys think I will need anything else - like driveshaft or center bearing or anything? Also, how does the shift lever stay mounted in the gear box I slid it back in but it popped back out again - did I just not slide it in hard enough? Like should it click/pop/whatever?
Thanks for any help guys.
