Two different selector rods, no part numbers. Which is right?

I was given two different selector rods from two sources. Here they are pictured. No part numbers on either.

The one on the left is longer by half an inch and where it inserts into the gearshift rod joint and the shift lever are even so that I can fit the clip over them without play. The second one is shorter and the insert is longer. I know this seems obvious, but since I have two I'm wondering which is right and what the other was for. Thanks.

How about telling us what car you have and which selector rod end you have.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I wish it were that easy. I got the trans from modifiede30 and the selector from a different source and a second selector that came from somebody else on here to a shifter lever.

I tried them both, the one on the right would need more washers for it to work so it is definitely the left one. I just wonder what the hell it came from.
