    rear driveshaft question

So after a lot of searching it seems this forum has mixed opinions on whether or not you can use the rear driveshaft from any e30 on any e30 whether it be auto or manual or 318 or 325. So who has a good answer? I'm only talking about the rear.

The front and rear drive shaft parts are balanced as a unit. Which means that if you mix-n-match halves the combination needs to be balanced. Other than that there is no restriction other than length & flanges on what combination you use.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yea i know this. I'm saving for a rebuild but until then i need to be able to drive. Are the back halves on all e30s the same length?

as posted above: driveshaft is a UNIT. it has several pieces which need to be kept together. mainly the front half and rear half, and the balance relationship - if in doubt you need to have the unit balanced @ a driveline specialist shop.

besides for this factor the rear sections are all the same length.

if you can buy the rear section @ upickupull or wherever you are sourcing driveshaft pieces you can buy the entire unit for the same price. They don't really care as half a driveshaft is a complete driveshaft. it will cost the same chump change.

^ that was the info i needed. See my post above for the other stuff...on my phone...

ok on computer now. I know it's not good to mix them/take them apart, but I am going to get one of my complete units rebuilt with a new CSB and balanced by the pros. But for now I need to keep it going until I can do that. It still drives now but you can feel the rear u joint shake bad. The csb is surprisingly still in good shape. But it probably won't be until September that I can get one rebuilt because I have to pay for my classes and books out of pocket next month...

i know the diff input is the same on all e30s so technically all e30 rear driveshaft half will bolt up on any e30, but it's the length of the rear i was concerned about. so thanks for the input.
