260 leaking after multiple rear seal replacements

Has anyone had a G260 leak after repeated rear seal replacement?

I think the seal has been replaced 3-4 times now, and it leaks after the first drive, just spewing out. The dye in the fluid shows that seal is definitely the culprit. The output flange was replaced as well.

I'm told the run-out is ok, and no signs of wear where the seal would seat.

Looks like I'm just going to cut my losses and replace the transmission with another unit, but I'm curious what could cause this?

If it is spewing out of the back then it is probably selector shaft or output shaft. Did you install the seal(s) because it may have been damaged or not put in far enough. There may also be a nick or burr on the metal that is damaging the seal. Is the trans case itself cracked? I would do a thorough inspection of the whole area to find the exact cause. The trans may in fact still be fine but without first finding the exact cause of leaking you won't know. Take your time cleaning and inspecting all possible causes and you will find it and maybe save some $ in the process. Good luck.

A plugged transmission breather can cause this.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
