    E30 Shift Linkage

    Hey,

I am starting to notice more slop in my shifter day by day. I checked it out and one of the bolts came loose. I put it back in and they isnt much play but there is still play.

I have an 86 325e. The play is coming from the shifter arm. I bolted it back up and there is still play but in the back. How would i fix this?

    Thanks

    1. That thing is a bushing that supports the long grey thing that the shifter sits in. Replacing that fixed my sloppy shifter.

    2. There is a plastic bushing here that holds the shifter. It can get worn out or unseated and wobble around.

    3. Make sure the cir clip is on here, otherwise the shifter linkage will come out of the bottom of the shifter arm.

    Hope that helps!

The first two pictures show how my linkage looks like. I clicked on the third one and it says there are no parts found matching your car. Thanks for your help anyways.

you have an earlier model carrier for the shifter. wear points are identical, with you needing/wanting to replace parts 14,16 and 7 on the middle diagram and #4 on the top one
