    Question about the harmonic balancer.

Ok so I'm in the process of dropping the drive shaft to do the rear main seal on the transmission. I was able to get the bolts out from the trans flange no problem but now the problem is getting the other ones out. The ones that run through the harmonic balancer. The whole bolt spins. I've heard that its not supposed to since it has a round head and no way of keep it from spinning. I've tried putting an 18mm socket on the end but it still spins and a 17 is a bit to small to fit over it.

What should I do? I was told to tac a weld on there to keep it place but looking for other alternatives first.

    Thanks for any help guys!

There is a transmission ouput flange that has pressed in round head bolts, but more commonly you will find standard bolts. In either case, remove the driveshaft and then remove the transmission output flange. Regardless of which variant you have you can then get the bolts out.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Its not the flange ones. Those 3 were fine. Its the other 3 that attach the guibo to the balancer.

EDIT: I don't plan on keeping the balancer on there so whatever gets the job done I suppose.

cant fit an impact in there but i'll give the vice grips a try. Think I have a smaller one that I can cram in there!
