When you are at a stop with the engine running and clutch pedal down will it positively engage all other gears?

yep. it slides into other gears just fine. It slides into first too but it feels funny, like sometimes there is resistance, sometimes there is a notch, sometimes it feels like i'm shifting or moving under water kind of resistance. Sorry if my analogies are ridiculous.

i have a similar thing happening to my car, but i know its clutch related...does your pedal vibrate???? on mine gears dont pop, just hard to go into them, but if i give it a little gas it goes smooth as butter...try giving it a little gas when trying to go into first...i dont think its good for the clutch

No vibration at the pedal. I don't think it's my clutch though. it gets the car rolling when I pull the ebrake and shift into first so that tells me my clutch isn't slipping otherwise it wouldn't roll. I'm going the linkage route and oil change first to see if I notice any improvements.

                  -put car in gear
                  -jack car up
                  -crawl under car
-the shift linkage is above the driveshaft
-wiggle the linkage around and look for obviously worn bushings
-if there is a lot of play, replace your bushings

                  TRANNY FLUID:
                  similar to changing engine oil

-on the passenger side of the trans there is a screw (filler screw). remove it - do this first
-there is a drain plug on the bottom of the trans (near the back)
-have a catch can ready. drain the old fluid
                  -screw drain plug back in
-get a fluid pump with hose attachment (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=940782_0_0_)
-pump your favorite gear oil in
-stop when you can feel the oil with your finger (poke your finger in the hole :giggle:)
                  -screw fill plug back in

Do these things first and report back
Fixed that for you. Always undo the filler first. You don't want to be stuck with a drained transmission and seized filler bolt.

Doesn't sound like your clutch or clutch hydraulics to me either. You've got a good plan, keep us posted!

How many quarts of fluid do I need? Also, I have a question about the reverse. It takes quite a bit of effort to put my car in reverse. I have to really lean into it and it pops in to reverse. Is that normal on our cars~?

I've seen issues with the shift linkage clearing the gybo in eta cars check to see it when you shift it clears it. You'll have to have someone shift it while you're under it.

The manual trans fluid capacity is 1.3qts.

Do you mean into gear, or through the reverse "gate"?

Sweet. So I'll buy two quarts of Redline MTL and give it a shot. I probably mean thru the reverse gate. Is that normal still? I suppose it's there to prevent accidental shifting into reverse as opposed to 1st.
