Mystery trans

so apparently my trans went recently and that blows. my uncle however has this mystery e28 trans ( apparently its from an e28, searching came up with nothing more ) some say it will bolt up to an m20 but i havent been able to find if anyone has attempted. the number on the side is 2600105091. anyone know if this is a possible bolt up

my car is an 87 325is

If it is out of a 528e (m20) it will bolt up.

That looks like an M30 gearbox, no go.

First numbers say "260"


It's a Getrag 260 and will bolt right in.

Even if it is from an M30 powered car? I think not. There are 260 gearboxes behind M20s and M30s and they have completely different bellhousings. I didn't even look at the #s on the gearbox, i just went downstairs and looked at a M20 and a M30 transmission side by side. OP's gearbox looks like the M30 one so it wont work on his M20.
