    Rear axle boot replacement ?

I pulled the axle to replace my split outer c/v boot and I can't get the outer c/v joint
off. How do you remove the outer c/v joint, It appears to be splined. The only thing I can
think of is that the housing splits apart. The kit I got came with a c-clip but I don't see
that anywhere. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I got it, in anyone gives a shit you pop off the metal cover on the inner c/v joint and remove the c-clip holding the inner c/v on. I pulled the small inner boot clamp and removed
the c/v in with the boot still intact, then you can slide the outer boot and whatnot on the other end. boom, done. only a couple more repairs the turbo is ready to rip up the road!

Yep, that is the way you do it. I hope you used OE boots (or got real lucky with non-OE parts) and that you repacked the CV joints with grease. I've yet to find a non-OE boot where the outer boot doesn't run on the shock. The OE boot kits are fine in that regard, just more expensive. When you put the half shaft back on, use a new nut and lock plate.

Check the wheel bearing. If it has the slightest bit of roughness now would be the best time to replace it.

The boot kit was from empi, all the parts were there inlcluding the axle nut and locking plate. I don't see any rubbing going on though, seems like it was a decent aftermarket kit.

Maybe you lucked out. I hope so because this job is a bit of a pain.

Did you also use glue to seal the boot in addition to the clamp?
