    ZF vs Getrag 260...

alright im on my 3rd getrag 260 and its about to go as well... now my question is would it be better to just rebuild one of my others that i have or go ahead and upgrade to a ZF of some kind?

    ZF
5 speed vs 6 speed which is better for the money...

what mods need to be done for this to work?

oh yea the car is 24v with an E36 euro M3 flywheel setup... if that help any lol

and if anyone has something laying around i might be interested ;)

What is it doing? You still haven't described the symptoms of failure you are experiencing.

Is it not going into gear?

            Grinding into certain gears?

Or is it just Getrag growl that you are mistaking for imminent failure?

Well do you keep getting piece of shit junkyard transmissions? Are you maintaining the fluid level and using good fluids?

The Getrag 420 is the go-to 6 speed transmission in the E46 M3. The ZF 6 speed from the 3.0s is not as stout.

Did you know there's an entire sub-forum dedicated to Transmision & Driveline?

It's literally right in the middle of of the main forums page.

yes im maintaing fluid. the symtoms are grind goin into 3rd then CLUNK when it finally goes in. (syncros fucked)
the getrag rattle im not worried about. ive only had 1 that didnt do it..

no im not getting junkyard trannys. the 1st one i had would have never went bad if the wreck didnt fuck it up so bad it only had like 35k on it.
the 2nd one i got off a well known forum member the 3rd had about 130k and came from a 5 series.

yes i kno theres a sub forum but my comp was gonna die when i started this thread so if someone can move it that wud be cool.

so basically should i just get a rebuilt GR260 have one if mine rebuilt, or try and source an E46 one? and if i find a stronger one what would i be looking at in price (i havnt been able to find any) and what mods would need to be done to make it work??

i guess i could jack up my dads E46 M3 and steal his ;)

ZF sg320 5 speed if budget is a concern. newer, stronger, newer newer newer. Dosnt have the grumpy g260 2nd gear moving around issue as well

Getrag e46m 6mt if no budget concerns or dad dosn't mind you removing the trans from his
e46m and giving him a g260 in return lol
                          OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

Z4 non powered steering rack fits e30

                          Euro e46 2005/6 320d 6mt gearbox into E30 with M20 hardy and beck 1985 327s engine

haha he doesnt drive it much ;) when i get to the shop tomorrow ill call a few of our suppliers and see if anyone has one from an E46 M3 that isnt gonna burn the wallet.

so im guessing for that ill need a different driveshaft?
