You know that there are like a billion gear speed calculators on the internet, right? And the gear ratios are in wikipedia....

        what type of event?

if it's autox i wouldn't bother. I prefer a long 2nd gear and an LSD. if it was just a track and you think you put the power down with an open diff... go for it.

Drift would be a waste of time as well.
1/4 mile it might do something, but I don't know if you'll be able to get off the line as fast, who knows.

          google search:

          "fat boy gear calculator"

then look @ your tires and see what size they are; imput into calculator.

input stock redline and there you have it.

what kind of event? usually I like longer gears for track events, shifting is annoying when you could be not shifting and WOT.

my e30 with stock engine is currently paired with a 3.15 final drive, its kinda short to me. Drove a g260+4.10 setup yesterday, is nice for freeway acceleration between 70-120mph but may not be suited to all tracks.
          OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

Z4 non powered steering rack fits e30

          Euro e46 2005/6 320d 6mt gearbox into E30 with M20 hardy and beck 1985 327s engine

            Thanks for the replys..

            the event is this:

not quite drawn to scale, but the course is just about 3 miles long...and yes, that green in the satellite pic you see is water!
its a Time Trial/Autocross but @ high speed (sections w/mid & high 4th gear) just google 'Bay Bottom Crawl' there are some vids of past events.

I need the acceleration out of the stations like an Autocross and in the faster sections I would like a bit of top end..especially out of Station 9 where its just over 1/4 mile of flat out ...I don't think I need more than 120mph at any one time. Its unfortunate that this 4.10 is non LSD, but it will have to do. this is a once a year event and I certainly love my 3.73 LSD for regular track days.

I'd leave the LSD in, personally. I run an M42, and I refuse to put my 4.10 open back in. :p
