    Rear Drive Shaft

So just so no one gets mad I did post this originally in the iX thread, but no one seems to know, so i've extended my scope for help.

I'm replacing my rear drive shaft on my iX and I need to know how to extend it. I really need a detailed explanation, not just "turn that there nut"

    Thank you

If you need it extended, take it to a shaft shop and have them extend it and rebalance.

I think he means he needs to slide the splined part out a bit. All you do is loosen the big nut a few turns and pull. Then tighten it back up when you are done. There really isn't anything to it.

You can just start installation, and put all the nuts and bolts in place before tightening. Looks way easier to do than the drive shaft in my car. Make sure there is a centering sleeve installed. GL ( http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E3...nents_4_wheel/ )

So I took the shaft to BMW and they really didn't know. (living in SoCal they seem to think iX's and xi's are voodoo) They told me not to turn the collar nut at the back. I installed the driveshaft without hooking it up to the differential and it came out to be 2-3 mm gap between the shaft and the flange.

Should I just tighten it down? Or do I have a problem?
