Thin metal plate on trans?

    Thin metal plate on trans?

    Does anyone know what the thing metal plate between the rear of the engine block and the transmission, I always forget the one small bolt that holds it and I end upbending it a bit, is it vital? I may need.itfor my m50 swap

    It's just a dirt/rock shield. Straighten it out best you can and use it.

      I'm sure Janderson will pop in and explain the importance of it because it held his build up for a while.

      Short answer: Yes. It is important, it stops a lot of unwanted dirt and shit from getting up in there. And if you have the time you could order a new one, they are under $15 if I remember correctly.

          It acts as a shim to space the transmission (and therefore release bearing) the correct distance away from the engine (and therefore the clutch/pressure plate). So yes, it is need. I would just try to bend yours back as best you can, or just buy a new one. They are cheap.

                I haven't run one for a while but it does seem to make my TOB noisy as hell so when I swap motors it will be back on.
