    Guibo + ?

Going to replace my guibo soon and wondering if there are any other parts I should replace with it?

Make sure you get all new locknuts. They're $2 or so from BMW and not much less from a hardware store. I'd suggest just getting the BMW ones so you don't have to fuss with finding the right grade or thread pitch.

It also wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the bolts. I had a nut come loose and the play caused the bolt to grind itself down. Scary stuff to see.

While you're doing the guibo it would be a good time to ditch the harmonic balancer if you'd like. I'd agree with everything CabbE30 said as well. If you do decide to replace the CSB get the whole kit with the new circlip and backing plate. I mangled mine getting it off though I also didn't have the proper tools.

.... You can just ditch the harmonic balancer? How does this work?

Does it require any special tools for the CSB?

Most of the forumers agree that the harmonic balancer is unnecessary. I dropped mine last week and haven't noticed any difference. For the CSB you'll need a tool the remove/install the circlip.

As far as the balancer I'm not 100% sure on how to actually remove it. I was at a buddy's shop and he took it in the back and did it for me.

Well it was put in for a reason so I'll let it be. Hmmm how did you do the circlip? I'll have to see about getting this tool

for the CSB circlip its just pliers designed for that task. Home depot time

Also its a good time to do the selector shaft seal and the foam under the selector knuckle. very cheap and annoying/not possible to get to without Guibo removed

It was put there to reduce vibrations, and to be honest you most likely won't notice anything with it removed. On the plus side it makes things far easier to work on with it out of the way, and it's less rotating mass which is always good.

To get the balancer off you simply just drop it on its studs, atleast... that's what I did. Worked just fine!
