    bent selector????

    Strangest thing. When my car is in first the shifter looks like it is in neural and 2nd and 4th barley engage because the shifter hits the console. Whats going on?

      The shifter could be assembled wrong or could have incorrect parts.
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        The shift lever itself may need to be spun around 180 degrees.

          It is nothing that I installed. It is still OE it just started doing it.

            type car it's on? 325e? if so sounds like a plate screw fell off.

                Unless you have owned the car since it was new you don't know what might have been done to the shifter. You are going to have to have a look at the shifter to see what the problem is.

                  Motor/trans mounts could be sheared and the engine moved. Just going to have to crawl under and take a look at everything.

                    From the bottom everything looks to be where it should be. Nothing hanging down or anything. Warning noob question. Can you attack all this from the top or do you have yo drop the trans down?

                      Work on the shifter is done from the bottom. It helps to unbolt the transmission brace, support the transmission with a jack, and lower the rear of the transmission.
