Rebuild or short throw

I'm shopping right now and can't decide if I should get a short throw shift kit, $250+ or just go with a linkage rebuild kit $107. Keep in mind though that I'm on a budget and my stick in first gear can move over to the 5th gear area. Help please.

even if you purchase a short shifter, you will need to replace the bushings and selector rod joint. If you don't your shifter will still be very sloppy. I just rebuilt mine and the worst offender for cause of sloppiness was the selector rod joint and the bottom of shifter itself.

Short throw or don't waste your time. Hat buy a 30$ eBay one

i bought the thirty dollar short shifter from ebay and doin a power shift on to the freeway, the shifter came out of the carrier. i had to get saftey wire to hold it in until i got home. I just bought from bimmerworld a "budget short shifter" from a z3. 100 bucks. then a way cool shift knob that will put the shifter and the closer to the steering wheel. idk if you want that. but if really wanna spend some money.(shich you dont) UUC makes a fully ajustable shifter. but its like 425. :/
