    E30 LSD - Power Limits & Options

    Hi there,

Recently picked up an LSD centre for my E30 but unsure about what power limits they are good for before they start breaking.

I've read two different figures, 500hp and 500ft/lb torque... Can anyone confirm for me which one is most accurate?

Also, are there any other bolt up options available that I might be able to use?

    Cheers...

torque.... you can have all the hp in the world but its torque thats the real driving force. without any torque, with is the measure of rotational strength you would never get anything to move. so it makes sence that its the force that will break things

I'm not sure what they're modification does to increase torque limits, but MM has some numbers listed on page 6 of this PDF. Call them, they don't answer email, they can probably tell you what the stock limit is ;)

ive been told that they are pretty hearty. not sure of load ratings but we are running a 3.8l from an e34 m5 through a factory e30 medium case lsd and its taking full track dutys with no problems at all.

Perfect, that's what I was after, so my medium case lsd with 2.79 lsd centre is rated to 500ft/lb which is about 677nm.

I also know what torque is, but like I said, I have read that some people referred to the power limit to 500hp and read another power limit of 500ft/lb which makes more sense...

Looks like the larger 210 differential would be better for me.

Has anyone swapped one over in an e30?

what kind of power are you putting down at the rear wheels?

I've set up a a decent number of OEM ZF based 188mm LSD units for locals/not locals with more than 500rwhp. even 1krwhp does not shatter them, oem Organic discs take about 25 passes in the 9's before they are done. Gears are were alive in that unit actually, the 5 clutch center wore out first.
