    Weird Sounds from the rear

    Hey all,

My car has been making this weird rubbing/grinding noise when make slow turns. It sounds, to me at least, like the tire is rubbing in the inner rear fender. This noise can be felt while it's happening. There is no signs of it existing at speed, turning fast-ish and it doesn't always happen either which makes it even more annoying.

I changed the fluid to Redline 75w90 last week hoping it would help and if anything it made it worse. It's a used 3.73 with a LSD in it and I am wondering if it's just the LSD giving out/ is out. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks for looking.

it's like a rubbing coming from the rear of the car? Only happening with tight turns? it's the LSD's clutches. (since there is a difference in rear wheel speeds)

it's semi-normal, but if you really hate it, add some limited slip fluid to the diff and it will make it quieter. Heavier oil will make it worse. I run 75W-140 and it's pretty noticeable.

Try this, go to a parking lot, turn the wheel to full lock(either way) and go in a circle about 15 times. It doesn't have to be extremely fast. Turn the wheel to the other side and do the same thing. Then stop, and listen to the rear end as you have been doing(replicate the noise). It should be quieter. Based on this, you've heated up the clutches and the fluid in the diff, and now it's less viscous.
