Should be a regular early 260. I have an '84 323 5 speed in my '89 .

Car could have been a grey market import

it was a grey marked car i just dont have access to it right now trying to see if its worth my time to see if it is a dogleg

Last 7 of the vin will solve that. Honestly though for daily use the dogleg box is miserable, It's an awkward shift and more natural to shift the normal way.

All 323 in the USA are grey market. Can you have someone wiggle the shifter around and tell you the pattern? It's pretty obvious when your hand is on the shifter, plus the trans could have been changed from original.
