SSK for early models

Has anyone successfully installed a B&M SSK (PN 45126) on an early model with the sheet metal carrier?
B&M's website says it will work on all E30s, but Turnermotorsports.com says 6/86 built and later only (aluminum carrier)

This is one method people have used. I've not tried it but looks reasonable
I don't have the original post/thread info . I bought these cups from Pelican parts to try this sometime. I'm sure they can be purchased at other vendors GL

Installed a z3 1.9 lever and all new oem hardware in a metal console. No issues, very nice upgrade from stock worn out shifter.

Buy 1 upper ball cup, 2 lower ball cups and sand one of the two lower cups down in order to fit all 3 in the metal console and lock with the circlip. Cut the upper ball cup with a sharp blade and slip on the shift lever. Replaced all worn out hardware and enjoy !
