    Getrag bearing interchange info

Hey fellas, Ive recently acquired a Getrag 260 and immediately tore it apart to
see what I was dealing with. Luckily it was in pretty good nick. So I replaced all of the seals and immediately started looking for an input shaft bearing and a countershaft bearing since i have been told that they are often the cause of getrag chatter. Dealer only I kept hearing, HOWEVER! Ive found some alternatives. A National 307 bearing and a Timken 306L will directly replace the input shaft bearing at a fraction of the cost and these bearings seem to be a better design. Unfortunately I have yet to find an alternative counter shaft bearing. So im looking for input. If anyone has any experience or knowledge they would like to share, get in here. I personally am in my transmission with parts to refresh and various parts for the swap $120 bones. I would like this thread to be a source for info on a budget refresh. Hope this helps someone out there.

I guess some places do a tapered roller bearing retro fit on the countershaft. Metric Mechanic is who i know of. I am actually in the same boat you are right now as my trans is tore down and I am trying to find info on the bearing swap. I currently have a SKF BR14 bearing that will fit the shaft but the case would have to have the sleeve removed and machined out to fit the race. I plan on but have yet to talk to a tool and die shop to see if they will do this. However I am unsure of how shimming will need to work. Let me know if you come up with anything.
