ZF Transmission needs rebuild. Replace with the same. Advice

    Hey all,

I have an 89 325i and the ZF tranny is going.
Have access to another ZF4HP22 from a Member here with only about 135k Miles on it pulled for a Manual Swap.
I need to replace my Guibo whilst in there.
    Might do Mounts as well.
Anything else I should inspect / change while I'm in there?
Any good write-ups for a ZF change? Couldn't find one.
Is it just a simple as pull the old one out and putting the new one in..?
I took to Aamco for a free Inspection and I thought I heard the guy mention something about programming the new Transmission..?

    Any advice..?

    Thanks.

The transmission of this car is not computer controlled, so no programming needed.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

simple as remove shit old transmission- install new non-shit transmission.

only potential gotcha is that there is a difference in the cooler fittings late to early models. if you have the old trans, no issues. moral of this story, dont shitcan old trans before hooking new one up.....
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

Do the Trans and Motor Mount Grab the TQ Convertor with your used trans. Ck out youtube on how to install a TQ Convertor. Not hard but does require knowledge of process. Check D/S ujoints for binding. Replace CSB and Output shaft bushing. Set bushing at proper depth. Bently describes the process. Its nice if working alone to have a trans cradle for your floor jack. Harbor freight cheap one works well. Tall jackstands to acquire clearence to slip trans out. Google search the R/R is described.

              Got it.

My Car is a 89 and the Donor Car was a 92. I think that would mean both Tranny's are Late Model.

But I will def. hold onto the old even after install for a rebuild-able spare.

              Thanks.
