M20 with getrag 260 shifter holder rubs against the drive shaft

Hey like the title says. I bought the car and it was rubbing it sounds like against the driveline. And when I move my shifter all the way to te left it rubs also... it's pissing me off. I replaced shifter bushing... But I think it is the long metal piece that holds the shifter that is rubbing. What can I do to diagnose the problem? And fix it. Thanks in advance!

This happened to me one time, but it was much worse than you describe. The harmonic dampener on the driveshaft came loose and was smacking against the shifter

I have a m50 swap using the getrag 260, with a z3 shifter, mine rubs all the time if you push down on it.

This was my first thought too. Are your shift throws short, miata like? When I swapped out my stock shift lever for a Z4 2.5, it rubbed on the harmonic balancer. Removing the harmonic balancer will solve the problem and will not effect the driveline.

Ok. Well I just did a stage three clutch swap and tightened the driveline all the way. So I know it's tight. But are you guys sayin it might be the wrong shifter? Does it say anywhere on the shifter so I can know if it's the right or wrong one? And is the harmonic balancer the big black circle thing that's next to the guibo? Thanks.

yeah, I think this is a pic of an early model but the same idea. Have you looked under the car since your install to see where it is hitting?

Take off the lower lever arm and bend it. UUC motor werks has pictures if you so desire to look.
I works great to bend with in a vice with a few sockets.
Oh Note UUC no longer has an install guide for thw E30 that I can find on their site.
So again take off lower rod.
Look for where it has been rubbing.
put socket right on scratch marks and two above and smoosh in vice.
