    Cv half shaft bolt

I plan on pulling my cv half shafts soon and redoing the boots and replace wheel bearings. Right now I am ordering parts and making sure I get everything but the one thing I wanted to check is what type of socket do I need to undo the bolts on the diff side? I think they are torx but wanted to erode I have the right socket.

Also is the easiest way to do the wheel bearings the fwd drive bearing tool from hf? Seems in the guide on here is was mentioned.

I've never seen a torx, I've always seen either 6 or 8 maybe 10mm hex. I've never looked at the actual size of it.

The easiest way I have found to do the front wheel bearings is actually dry ice. Wrap a Tshirt with the holes taped up around the shock tube and hub, fill with dry ice. Wait and hour and it will just slide right off whole from everything being contracted. And the new one will slide right back on easy peasy.

But do that one at your own risk.

Okay I have no idea have not looked under the car yet but on realoem it says the bolts are M10X43 ZNS3 and when I google them it says torx with ribs. On pelican parts it lists a 8mm 12 point socket as a removal tool they sell but it almost looks like a torx so was confused.

I was referring to the rear wheel bearings not fronts.

When I ordered new ones I received torx ones but the ones originally on the car were hex. I hate hex, they get full of dirt and often get stripped by noobs.

Original ones are 8mm hex. Use plenty of PB Blaster, clean bolts heads and use a bit of
valve grinding compoun, this will help to get more grip. Place the socket on the bolt and tap it with a hammer. Take your time.

no, sorry, dont have an e30 anymore either. I bought a cheap e-torx set for $15. Worth having as I used them again when i replaced the oil pan gasket.

Use the bolts from the E36 rear end. They work great.
