cuttin an e34 aluminum shifter down to fit e30?

can this be done it looks like the mount will fit the rabbit ears and the rear mount should bolt up once it is cut i just dont know the length to cut it to i have an early model plate mount so i have no aluminum e30 shifter mounts to compare it to?

E34 swap parts are more rare and valuable than the E30 bits, you should trade/sell whatever

i had pulled it off an e34 hoping it would fit since my other shift selector rod broke (i ended up getting it welded) but i was still thinking if i could cut the selector rod and the mounting arm it looks like it would fit i just dont know what length the original e30 aluminum carrier is to cut it to. the reason i dont wanna just trade is 1. i wanna try to engineer something interesting 2. i live a good ways away from anywhere BMW parts are readily available so if this works easily for me bonus!

order e30 shifter to match your vin number from blunt. won't be very expensive at all, probably cost less than futzing w/ it

Have you checked your transmission? Most of the 86 cars had provisions to install the aluminum shift carrier even though they came with the sheetmetal carrier.

I wouldn't waste time messing with modifying the wrong parts when the right parts are easily available and fairly cheap.
