no clutch, pedal draws itself to the floor?

Pulling it in the garage today and the pedal stuck to the floor but the clutch seemed to be engaged. Got out to check and you can pull the pedal back up to normal, but when you push it down past half it draws itself to the floor. NO leaks anywhere and NO loss of fluid. took the slave out and it looks good. It was mounted bleed screw pointing down, is this correct? I see that there is a spring mechanism next to the pedal, can this be going past its pivot and drawing the pedal to the floor? Very confused. All was well before this.If the master was bad it would leak, yes? Any other way for the system to draw in air? The fluid level is good in the brake master as well.

Sounds like a bad master. They won't always leak when they go bad. Pretty much the only thing that will cause the pedal to drop to the floor is a bad master.

Weird part is it isnt like there is no fluid..I know what a dead slave feels like(a dead pedal). If you push down on this it will physically move to the floor on its own. Still has pressure. Slave is absolutely good. Maybe a master is in my future. Just wanted to make sure i wasnt overlooking something. That whole spring mechanism is way overcomplicated.

well one thing is if you did a auto to 5spd swap or swapped pedals you might not have reinstalled the spring behind the pedal and when u press the pedal it would cause it to get sucks to the floor about half way and get almost suck and you need to pull a little bit for the spring to shoot it back up.

another thing is ypu amy need to rebleed your clutch. theres plenty of guides on how to do it online its very stright foward but u have to get the hang of it to get rid of all the air it took me about a half hour the first time. and when bleeding make sure to remove ur clutch stop cause that could cause you to no bleed it fully!

glad i could help good luck

The spring on the clutch pedal is for assisting and not a return spring, when it goes over center it helps press the pedal down. If you are not losing brake fluid(make sure the level is above the clutch nipple on the reservoir) then if the cups in the master or slave are not sealing 100% against the bore it will allow fluid past them and the pedal will sink.

I fixed it. New slave and master. Master was bad. That job sucked, not much room in there to work!
