    Clutch slipping on M52B28 / M20 flywheel / G240

Resolved: I am an impatient dumbass.

Previous owner told me the flywheel on the motor was a machined M20. If I had looked I would have seen it was an M20 dual mass.

So my folly was I threw this together:
    M52B28
    M20 dual mass
    euro 323i throw out bearing
    M42 G240

It drove, but slipped just enough to confuse the heck out of me. Removed everything and the clutch looked glazed.

I resolved this by throwing in an M52B28 dual mass and stock M42 G240 (TOB and slave).

It could be the slave cylinder. As a check you could space the slave off the bell housing with some washers. If that helps the real fix would be a slave with a shorter rod, or trim the rod on the slave you have.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Negative. I put spacers in and its still slipping. Reinstalled the original slave pushrod. I'm just going to drive it for ~500 miles and see what happens.

I bet it got some fluid on it from all the time sitting in my garage.

Well, I drove 10 miles with the wrong throw out bearing. Pulled the transmission. Installed M52B28 dual mass flywheel, clutch, pressure plate with the G240 (stock TOB and slave). It's working perfect.

        Edit: Clarified.

So did you just put in the m52 flywheel or did you use a different throwout bearing?

I had the original M52B28 dual mass flywheel with a decent clutch. So, I used it with my M42 G240 and M42 G240 throw out bearing.

This is not the ideal set up. Unloaded it revs slow, but the clutch has more surface area and plenty of meat (11mm).
