New throwing bearing is busted, or not "set"? [video]

So I have a video of the throw out bearing I just removed from my car, and the new one going in. The new one strikes me as busted... Thoughts?

Edit: holy thread title auto correct Batman!

when i lightened my flywheel and replaced all eng/ tran seals, i remember the t/o bearing to be tight...sure it spun, and has a plastic collar, but it was pretty tight..didn't drop out like yours does.

that is if im watching it correctly, you have 2, and i think the new one appears to be falling apart.

What brands are they and how new is it? Some of this brands they say are new but the new parts fall apart like an OEM after 10 + years, just buy OEM or reputable name brand and you wont regret it.

The last time I had a TOB in my hands it was also tight. And you're right, the "tight" one is the old one. The floppy one that looks like its falling about is the new one.

The TOB came with the LUK clutch kit from BMA, though there is nothing stamped on the TOB its self.

The only thing that makes me think it's good is that it technically spins very freely and nicely when pressed in. In fact if you told me that this looseness was a feature to help it mate up the the pressure plate even when the pressure plate and TOB aren't perfectly aligned I would believe you. Also, when I had my wheel bearings done the shop gave the assembly back to me and the hubs acted kind of like this. I was told that they just weren't set and that the compression would set them. Perhaps something like that is going on here? I'm out of time to order a new one, so maybe I'll flip a coin as to which one gets installed, the old but fine looking one, or the new but odd looking one...

The looseness in the throwout bearing is not necessarily a fault. I've seen new ones that were tight and ones like you have.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

i suggest a visit to the dealer, just to compare the two...
if the dealer is identical in every way, your fine...*duh* (some parts counter guys will ** under the table **swap you out and factory return your bad part)

if not, buy the dealer one that comes with a warranty, and return the floppy one, when you get the new one in the mail, resell it....sure, took a few more steps, but your not pulling the tranny in 2 weeks.

If it came in the kit I would assume it's good and install it, but if in doubt, jus get one from the dealer and put it on.. nothing is comforting than having a peace of mind, coz if u install the new or that old one while doubtful, any little freak sound or tran noise you'll be going, "God! i hope that's not the TB" ;).

It must be nice having a dealer near by :)
Closest one to me is 80 miles away, and since the TOB was part of a kit, I doubt I can easily return it.

My assumption at this point is that if it's supposed to be pressed together, and something "broke", than it wouldn't spin on the bearings so nicely. Since it does, and since it doesn't actually come apart into two pieces, than its good.
