    G260 first gear woes

picked up a resealed late model trans from a wrecked, reasonably low-mileage 89 that had a good amount of work put into it.

the issue: will go in first gear with clutch in, but will grind and spit out violently on engagement. third and reverse also intermittently have similar issues, but less common and less violent. i assumed the first gear synchros were toast, but i've noticed that if i go from second then into first before engaging the clutch, the car takes off fine. no whine, no kick-out..even under heavy load.

is it possible that the front end accident could have internally altered the selector rod, not fully engaging the top pattern gears? the hit was hard enough to split the motor mounts and poly trans mounts, pushing the fan into the radiator.

ideas? for now, the second-first thing is working fine...it's just an annoying habit to develop.

trans is getting better as i keep driving it. doesn't make sense. it's rejecting first less often and no more grinding.

Wear in the shifter could do this.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

it's got all new solid/delrin bushing and dssr. it SEEMS to have full range when watching it shift gears from under the car.

In that case I'd suspect worn shifter forks inside the transmission or physical damage. Meaning a rebuild or replacement.
