    E30 differential output seal depth?

I'm not really finding anything on this. I recently bought a 3.46lsd for my swap and I would like to refresh it while it's out. I went to install a new output shaft seal, and I install the new one almost all the way in (pretty deep). Now comparing it to the other side, the old seal was in much shallower. How far in are these things supposed to go? Is it possible to go too far?

Normally the seal would be installed flush with the casing or just below flush. It can be set deeper to avoid a wear groove in the shaft.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So no point in pulling it back out? It's down to the machined lip. I mistakenly thought that lip is where it should sit.

If you try to move it, you'll destroy the seal.

Removed it surprisingly without damaging it! Reinstalled correctly with a good amount of sealer on the outer metal ring. The good thing about this diff is that I will fill it and leave it alone for a week before installing. This way I'll know for sure if it leaks even a drop. Thanks for the help!
