BMW E30 320i (4hp22) automatic gearbox, no reverse?

Yesterday we did a swap with a m20b20 from a manual E30 to an automatic. So we used the automatic gearbox on the 'new' engine.

Because the whole engine and gearbox was removed from the car we drained the automatic gearbox. When it was all back in the car we filled the automatic gearbox with 3 litre ATF. Don't know what exactly was left in the box before filling, but the dipstick was showing full after 3 litre.

We ran the engine and did a little testdrive (1 mile or so), apart from the kickdown which hitted too fast it was running well in P, R, N and D. Didn't try the 1, 2 and 3.

When we came back I did a little adjustment on the kickdown cable, and did put the lever in R to back up. It felt like a little shock then the engine stalled. After that I restarted the engine, did put it in R again; now a little shock but it didn't go forward or backwards.

In N, D, 1, 2 and 3 it goes forward. We checked on how to proper fill the ATF of the transmission, and now filled it with a running engine in P. We could add 2 more litre. The problem however remains.

One more detail is that we twisted one of the copper/metal cooling hoses a bit while unbolting it. So it's a bit limited in flow I guess. Don't know if this can cause problems like these?

But the strange thing is that at first it just ran fine in R, and now it only wants to go forward even in N.

The car had some slip issues going forward the last months, but not always. We checked if the lever connected well to the box, and while shifting we looked under the car and everything seems in order. You can feel all the clicks while shifting.

Any idea what the problem might be? Forward it runs very well and shifts smoothly.
