    Differential Help

So my pinion seal is leaking and I cant find the replacement seal part number. I checked a few places already and I figured it be easier to come here. While I have that apart is there anything else I should change in there? I plan on changing the gasket for the cover as well. Does anyone have that part number? Also is there a good DIY for this? Im sure I can figure it out but any steps along the way to make it easier cant hurt. Thanks Guys

bmwfans.info is your friend, they're definitely there. When you change the pineon seal make sure you mark the nut on the back because it's tightened with a certain amount of preload. The seal sits quite tight in the housing, but it's only clamped. So if you pull hard enough it will come loose.

The gasket for the cover is no biggie, just unscrew the cover and change the gasket.

If you have an LSD, I would take this opportunity to change out the clutches too.

Yes, you need the pineon seal and two axle seals. You don't want to take the whole differential apart so there's no need for another crush sleeve. (33 12 1 200 259)

I suggest to also replace the other dust covers, so the one on the pineon and the two one flanges. Also a new lock nut isn't neccesary.

You can also order these parts at your bmw dealer/workshop.

A good way to take out the seals is by hammering them on one side so they will flip a bit. Be aware to put some WD40/ATF or someting alike on the new seals and put them in horizontally, because when they tilt you damage one side. Best is to find something round so you can gently hammer it in.
