    Center Support Bearing

    So, I have already replaced it once. And it seems to have failed again. So I was wondering what you guys think may be causing it. Or if there is a better option I could get. I don't want to be doing this every 9 months.

    Well, if your u-joints are in bad shape it could be putting more strain on the CSB.

    Also, what brand did you use? If you used a cheap Chinese replacement then that's where your problem lies. Go with something quality like Febi or OEM.

        In almost all cases a failure of the rubber mount of the CSB will be the result of bad u-joints in the drive shaft. Temporary relief may result from replacing just the CSB, but the new part may have a short life or there may only be some reduction in noise and vibration. The only real fix is to replace both the drive shaft and the CSB (and quibo).
        The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          The driveshaft u joints are non-replaceable BUT you can have a driveshaft shop bore them out and convert them to replaceable joints; I was quoted a little under $400 to have this done to my old driveshaft.

            Well, I think I got it from Pelican Parts. And I haven't ordered another one yet, so any suggestions would be nice.

            About the Flex Disc-Guibo, is there a difference in them for auto or manual transmissions? I have an auto, planning on getting the stuff together for the swap.

            And being that I don't have the money to replace or rebuild the shaft right now, is there anything that can be done? Even as a temporary fix?

              theres 2 sizes. which is the car?

              I believe ALL i engines use the same size, and all 318s too

              but the E and the M have some that use a larger size. I have an extra larger one cause i got the wrong one.

              a temporary fix is tough from here.

              I think you have to take the driveline off to diagnose it. And this is so much of a pain I would have all parts ready for reinstilation.

              I had a destroyed guibo that killed the csb. no u joint play at all. It was a bad motor mount.

              I dont think personally putting a new csb on will make any difference as far as temporarily stopping any vibration.

              To be honest all its there for is to prevent the driveshaft from falling really. just a ring with some rubber to absorb a very small vibration.

              Diagnosing a bad u joint is really tough on the car but ive seen some on youtube do a search.

                  pelican parts sells a febi guibo thats about as good as it gets.

                  Im not to worried about a brand name csb personally I dont think it does a lot.

                  Ive heard of people looking for a csb that doesnt tear or something but thats over estimating what it does.

                  If your going through csbs, it will tear one made of tough stuff.

                  thats 170 lb ft of torque it doesnt really care how thick the rubber is. if the shaft is there its gone

                  if youre getting really minor tears then I suppose a tougher one would matter.

                  show or picture how the csb failed.

                  I can diagnose it better from that.

                  if it is a tear in the csb in a line its the u joint in the back. If its completely gone its the guibo or motor mounts.

                    Looks like I'll be getting most if not all of the parts from Pelican then.

                    My car is an '87 325e. So the bigger one, I suppose.

                    Would lowering my car have any effect on the u-joints?

                    As far as things I should replace, I'm looking at the Guibo and CSB. Anything else I should look at?
