    chewing up guibos

On my '87 IS, I recently replaced the automatic tranny, guibo, and CSB. The car ran great for a week, then I began to get strange vibrations are certain RPMs. I got under the car and noticed that my new guibo was already breaking.

Totally baffled, I took everything apart and inspected. I noticed that the CSB was installed backwards and causing the driveshaft to hit the transmission at a slight angle. I corrected this and turned the CSB around. I reinstalled everything with a fresh guibo (CSB looked fully intact). The driveshaft appeared to be straight and at a proper angle to the transmission.

The car seemed perfect for the first few days (smooth at all RPMs and all speeds from 0 to 115mph), so I drove it HARD for the next 2-3 weeks (launching at red lights often and constantly hitting the kickdown). Now, just yesterday - the vibration is back. I'm almost certain that I chewed the guibo again.

Are there any known issues of guibos not holding up to hard driving?
When I get back under there, what should I look for? (assuming the CSB is still intact).

Did you install the FLEX DISC properly? It has arrows that need to point to a flange ear.

Are you preloading the CSB properly?

      No, and No.

Also, I didn't mark the splines on the driveshaft when I disassembled it last. Could that add to the mess?

Using the search function, someone mentioned to push the CSB towards the front of the car by 5mm before tightening the 2x 13mm bolts. Is this the proper preloading procedure?

Yes, I like to learn the expensive way... Ordering another guibo now. Thanks Jordan.

Should I get the MTC/RONAK or the FEBI part?

Absolutely. You might have a really tough time getting it back in synch.

Ugh... so now you are dealing with what is almost certainly a unbalanced driveshaft as well.

FEBI is the prefered brand out of those.

Preloading 5mm or so is fine.

How about the driveshaft could be bad and making the guibo tear up alot faster.

Well, an un-synched driveshaft, which he now has, will do the same thing.

I saw driveshafts.com mentioned on here, so I think i'm gonna get a rebuilt driveshaft from them along with a new guibo. Should do the trick!

It is a fucking flex disc.

                    Damn.

Flex disc and guibo are 2 completely different items!

One is impregnated with nylon cording, one is not.

Make sure your u-joints are lined up. Check in the bentley, it lists the correct position/lineup.
