    Pretrouble shooting transmission oil leak

I have an 85 e, it has a 2xx,xxx miles on it, I'm working in Cali at the moment and the car is in Phoenix. I want to make it my travel vehicle that I'll leave in California as I work there. To get it there its going to need some maintenance and tune up to do probably a 600-900 mile trip. Once in Cali it'll be just putted around the state and then sit for my 6 days off.

I haven't gotten under neath it in years nor really driven it (my brother did a lot in past 2 years) but I do know its leaking transmission fluid.

What are some common problems, areas, or parts do I usually need to fix this issue.....Where do I need to look? What tools am I going to need?

I wish I could say fuck it I'm going 24 valve but as a travel vehicle that makes no sense.

    Thanks!

TL;DR. Have transmission leak, not near car too look at it this moment, and want to know how to fix it.

Well, first is this a manual or automatic transmission?

If a manual, the input shaft seal could be leaking (check of oil dripping from the bell housing). Or the output or sector shaft seals could be leaking in which case the rear of the transmission will be wet.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It's all here. Also the reverse switch, and some of the casting plugs for the gear rods.
