I have an S50B32 engine and 6 speed Getrag box, from a Euro E36 M3 that I am fitting into an E30 race car. I was given another 6 speed gearbox, out of the same type of car as a spare- unfortunately it needs synchro rings on second and third, but I wasn't complaining as it was a freebie. Does anyone know if these parts are available from anywhere? The previous owner replaced this box with a new one as BMW told him no parts were available for this box.I know that some Toyota Supras use a 6 speed box also made by Getrag, and though this could be a possible avenue to obtain spare parts.I may look at having a new set of closer ratio gears with dog rings made ("crash box" to you Americans!) if I cannot get any parts. Any help would, as always,be very much appreciated!
Synchro rings for a Getrag 6 speed?

I would look from a bmw dealership, or somewhere like that, maybe even check at a local parts house and some tranny shops. I wouldn't trust to get any parts from a used tranny, especially from a car of a different make. It may cost more, but the syncro's are important enough that I personally would want new ones. If their bad syncro's it's not gonna shift right, or will just not want to shift or grind, so I would use new syncro's. That's just me tho. -
Perhaps I wasn't very clear in how I worded things. BMW have said no parts are available for these boxes, there are no service tools or anything listed, not even bearings. The only solution is an exchange new gearbox ( this was the "exchange unit"- BMW forgot about it) As there are probably tens of thousands of these boxes fitted to cars around the world (apparently the US spec. 6 speed has this box) I am sure I'm not the first to be looking for spares! And I agree, it would be foolish to fit used parts to it, only new will do in this case, as this box was removed because of knackered synchros. So I guess my question really is, does anyone know where I can get parts that are compatible, whether they are genuine BMW or pattern parts?Last edited by conrod; 12-05-2005, 10:23 PM.Comment

I'd try a local parts house, if you have any around. Also would check a transmission shop. Make friends w/ a transmission shop manager and they can get tons of parts, horrible pricing sometimes, but I doubt ur gonna ahve a huge selection of places. I personally would try a transmission shop, I dunno about the getrag parts, but wen I rebuilt a corvette 4 speed, I went there and they had a huge selection of parts they could orderComment

Hi Conrod, I see you get around the forums also.
Just speaking from the supra side of things, the getrag's are almost treated as throw away items, once they flog out it is cheaper to get another 2nd hand box than recon one.
In NZ it is alot easier for us to get boxes etc... from Japan, but when it comes to the BMW parts, esp. M parts, we are up the creek.292rwhp E30 :DComment
